WHAT do you get if you cross one of the world’s biggest fashion names with the finest in Italian motor yacht design? The answer is the Aquariva by Gucci – 33ft of utterly delectable motor yacht exhibiting the best in artisan workmanship and materials.

Italian fashion powerhouse Gucci has teamed up with Riva and Officina Italiana Design, the company behind the original Aquariva of 2000, to create this exclusive made-to-order sports cruiser.

Customised by Frida Giannini, Gucci’s young Creative Director and successor to Tom Ford, the Aquariva forms part of Gucci’s worldwide ‘Forever Now’ advertising campaign celebrating 90 years since Gucci was founded in Florence in 1921. Although Riva’s history is somewhat longer, established on a lake in northern Italy almost 170 years ago in 1842, the collaboration is particularly fitting.

Signora Giannini said: “Over the decades the iconic Riva boat has become without doubt one of the most evocative images of Italian style, sophistication and elegance. It is a symbol of a glamorous lifestyle that sparks fond memories of La Dolce Vita – a golden age when both Gucci and Riva attracted an enthusiastic following among the international jet set. It is therefore especially meaningful in Gucci’s 90th anniversary year to be able to recognise and celebrate the great traditions and values of both Gucci and Riva through the Aquariva by Gucci.”

High on elegance and beauty, the Aquariva by Gucci has a sleek fibreglass hull and detailing painted in Gucci’s own hue of glossy white. Riva adds further hull detailing in its signature mahogany with classic varnish finish – twenty coats in all, ten by brushing, ten by spraying – a material that is also used for the cockpit, decks and awning cover hatch.

The waterproof fabric on the seats and sundeck cushions features the emblematic Guccissima print, whilst the bed upholstery is defined by the beauty of Gucci white cotton. A final flourish comes courtesy of Gucci’s green-red-green web detailing which edges the floating line, perfectly complementing the unique green crystal windshield.

And, to add a special customised touch, clients can choose from a series of exclusive Riva by Gucci accessories. An innovative two-speed electronic gear harnesses all the power of the two 380-horsepower Yanmar engines and she has a more than-impressive 150-mile range at cruising speed and a maximum of 41 knots – hold onto your Gucci headscarf!

Unveiled at the Cannes Boat Show in September 2010, the Aquariva by Gucci also had a special catwalk appearance on the opening day of Milan Fashion Week at the end of the samemonth. She has since travelled the world visiting some of the globe’s most prestigious boat shows, including the London International Boat Show in January 2011.

Wallpaper magazine has already bestowed the yacht with a Wallpaper Design Award 2010 in the Best Boat category. Aquariva by Gucci will be exclusively available on a made-to order basis through Riva’s dealer network.
