Jet Black!

My car (a Peugeot 207cc since you ask) has a 1.6 litre engine.  It also happens to weigh 1,720kg (without me sat inside). Consider this: there exists a jetski that has a massive 1.5 litre engine yet comes in at a fraction of the weight of the Peugeot, around a quarter. They call it the ‘Black Edition 360’ – little wonder it’s claimed to be the world’s fastest.

Starting life as the Sea-doo RXP-X 260, England-based 158 Performance Team has taken this jetski and given it a fair few tweaks to transform it into the Black Edition 360.  And, with 360hp (100 more than it left Sea-Doo’s factory with) it can crank out top speeds of 80mph – faster and more powerful than any other commercial model on the market today. Although technically not the fastest ever in a straight line – its excellent handling makes it near-impossible to beat on any racecourse.

Josh Richardson, Founder of Superyacht Tenders and Toys and Black Edition 360 supplier, comments, “We’re really excited to add this to our portfolio as it truly is a limited edition product. The manufacturers are only making one hundred units and each will be designed with the special black livery with neon yellow accents.  It’s a great opportunity to own something unique and, above all, really fast. Adrenalin junkies can go from 0 to 80mph in just three seconds – a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, one of the world’s fastest street legal cars, can only manage 0 to 60mph in 2.4 seconds, and that’s with the aid of an eight litre engine. This Black Edition is immense.”

Current world and European jetski champion, Cambridge-born James Bushell, has been heavily involved in 158 Performance Team’s endeavours and was one of the first to test out the Black Edition.  He said, “It goes like stink and handles just like my race ski. It practically pulls your arms off – this isn’t one for the weak-wristed!”

For the tech-aficionado, here are the stats:  the Black Edition 360 boasts a Rotax 1500cc 4 tech engine, a re-mapped ECU (Engine Control Unit) with 60lb fuel injectors for improved acceleration and top speed.  There is a 71 degree thermostat for lowered engine temperature to optimise performance. The exhaust is a free flow sports version and it has a lowered race steering system and handlebars. The Black Edition comes with a 158 Performance Team mat kit and seat for extra grip and comfort.

Offered with the possibility for individual branding, personalised delivery and all-important training, the Black Edition doesn’t come cheap. Expected to appeal to super rich superyacht owners and playboy mi(bi)llionaires, its base price is £20,000. Worth every penny for just showing off and being safe in the knowledge you can challenge any other jetskier to a race – and win.
