OceAnco’s glowing concept revealed

The 2016 Dubai International Boat Show, which took place 1 to 5 March, saw the unveiling of an amazing new concept yacht by OceAnco, a sparkling, twinkling 90 metre superyacht named Moonstone.

This is a yacht that will stand out from the crowd.  Certainly she’s a beauty, with sleek lines and all the bells and whistles that we have come to associate with the luxury superyacht market, but Moonstone goes one step further.

The sides of this innovative superyacht consist of 600 LED triangles (300 per side) that can be programmed to dim and illuminate creating remarkable lighting displays that make this superyacht truly shine.  Developed with the yachting industry in mind, these lighting panels are highly resistant to seawater and comply with superyacht standards of shock and impact resistance.

If this weren’t cool enough, there’s more.  Moonstone also boasts wraparound overhead LED panels on each deck of the yacht.  These have been designed to display the video captured from a series of fisheye lenses positioned around the outside of the yacht.  The panels will therefore mirror and project external conditions, and display sunsets, sunrises or just clear Mediterranean skies – perfectly dreamy.

Moonstone was designed by OceAnco, a distinguished custom yacht builder based in the Netherlands which will celebrate its 30th birthday next year.  The exterior design was by another Dutch company, Van Geest Design of Amsterdam, while the unique LED arrays were created by UK-based Temeloy Advanced Lighting Design which has a number of superyacht lighting systems under its belt already.

Hold onto your hats though as it gets even better, Moonstone is not only a 90 metre hunk of gorgeous extravagance, she is also eco friendly (if you ignore the ginormous engines).  There are solar panels on the top deck which power the LED side panels and a single day’s sunlight allows the dimming and illuminating light panels on the hull to run for about three hours.

Moonstone is named after the gemstone.  OceAnco says, “Among its many touted properties, a moonstone is known as the psychic’s gemstone.  The stone has a luminous sheen and colours of light dance through it.  Project Moonstone promises to be all of these things.”

This shimmering superyacht has accommodation for 12 guests and includes an entire deck for the lucky owner.  There will also be a beautifully lit infinity pool, a vast gym and Spa area for keeping those muscles toned, and a cinema.  For those quick getaways there are top-of-the-range tenders and a touch-and-go helicopter pad.  The tenders can be easily reached thanks to side platforms both fore and aft.  The forward allow access to water toys and rescue tenders, while the two platforms aft lead to client tenders and an outdoor lounge area.  The top deck has 360º panoramic views from a sky deck, which also features a hot tub with ambient lighting (obviously)

Moonstone is powered by a pair of MTU 20V4000 M73L engines, generating 3,600kW each, which will give her a top speed of 18.5 knots

Although Moonstone is only a concept we can see her being snapped up as she is that rarity in the yachting world, an entirely new and innovative concept
