Netherlands-headquartered Heesen has just launched its biggest superyacht yet, the 70m Espen Oeino-designed Galactica Super Nova (formerly known as Project Kometa).

The Galactica Super Nova is a hi-tech boat with a fast displacement aluminium hull, which reduces resistance by up to 20% and gives this elegant beauty a top speed of almost 30 knots and a range of 4,000 nautical miles. In addition to the fast displacement hull, Galactica Super Nova has a ground-breaking fixed-pitch propeller shape that is unlike anything yet fitted to a yacht. Combine this with a Rolls Royce central booster jet and you have a superfast superyacht with a fantastic range.

The team behind this revolutionary engineered yacht is Dutch hydrodynamic specialists Van Oossanen who worked in conjunction with Heesen’s incredible engineering brains.

At the centre of the Galactica Super Nova is a spectacularly ornate spiral staircase, which wraps around a glass and steel elevator and connects all internal levels of the yacht.

With 357m² of volume there are 12 separate areas on board that will happily accommodate all 12 guests. Whether for beers, chat, formal dining or sunbathing, there is plenty of space to spend time together or find yourself a nook to read that latest bestseller.

From the top down: The sundeck has two separate private seating areas, a bar, alfresco dining area and plenty of loungers for the sun worshippers. Moving to the upper deck, aft there is outside seating and a huge circular alfresco dining table, which can be extended to seat up to 20 guests. Further forward is the ‘skylounge’ with a bar, games table and plenty of seating areas. The entire upper deck and lounge can be transformed into a nightclub with professional DJ equipment and laser-effect lighting. This deck also houses the VIP guest cabin and there is a spacious captain’s cabin off the vast wheelhouse.

The foredeck is huge and, as well as being perfect for catching a few rays, it can be used as a touch-and-go helipad. The built–in speakers mean that it can be also used for concerts, or indeed a humble disco, and a retractable screen transforms it into an amazing outdoor cinema.

The main deck has a swimming pool aft, yet more informal seating areas and an inside dining room with a dining table that will comfortably seat 12. Forward is the huge full-beam owner’s suite. In addition to the bedroom and dressing room the suite has his and hers en-suite bathrooms with separate his and hers loos, which are connected by a central walk-in rain shower.

Finally we reach the lower deck where there is a centrally located engine room. Forward of the engines are the guest and crew cabins. The former are rather more spacious than the latter however crew accommodation is nothing to be sniffed at with en-suite bathrooms all round.

Aft of the engines is a 146m² beach club, which has a whopping 44m² of exterior platforms. In addition to the foldout aft bathing platform there is a fold down terrace on the portside, creating plenty of space to stretch out and easy access to all the toys. There is also a full-length cocktail bar and, to top it all, a glass tiled steam room.

Heesen’s yachts are built to the highest safety rating and Galactica Super Nova’s advanced technology can also help guests in cases of emergency. The Heesen Rapid Reaction System has alarm buttons in strategic positions on every deck for use in the event of a person falling overboard. When activated, self-inflating buoys are launched into the sea, a marker illuminates on the chart plotter, and an alarm sounds.

Sexy, superfast and safe – what more do you want?
