Classic Sophistication of Superyacht Concept

UK yacht designer, Andy Waugh, has just released his latest superyacht concept, 130m Epiphany.  With its three, yes three, cinemas, this five-decked behemoth would suit any Hollywood star.

Waugh’s beautiful concept yachts have caught our eye before and we wrote about his Gaudi-inspired Nouveau here:  http://www.marinalive.net/2014/07/09/nouveau-futuristic-superyacht-concept/.  Since then he’s been busy scribbling away and his most recent offering, Epiphany, is a modern rethinking of a design classic.

Waugh says, “The purity of the form is a product of ‘simple sophistication’ a concept derived from analysis of what makes a ‘design classic’.”

The characteristic Waugh shape with its distinctive ‘stepped’ back allows each level to have its own large sunny aft deck.  The clear glass surrounds of these decks provide great views and each one overlooks the large swimming pool and lounging area on the main deck.

In a break from tradition the upper deck houses the bridge, which provides unparalleled views for whoever’s at the helm.  The captain is close at hand with his quarters just aft of the bridge and the ship’s office opposite completes the layout.

Next deck down is the owner’s deck, which is absolutely vast.  Forward is the stateroom that opens out onto a private foredeck with seating areas and a Jacuzzi.  The suite also has his and hers dressing rooms and loos.  This is a yacht for a workaholic and aft on this deck is a huge owner’s office with a second adjacent office, which is billed as being for “for personal assistants or important staff members to work in when visiting on business”.  For downtime there is an owner’s private cinema.

Below the owner’s deck is the VIP deck for the owner’s BFFs which houses six VIP cabins each with en suite facilities and private balconies.  The BFFs also get their own cinema and a gaming area in a full-width VIP lounge at the back of the deck – as well as a fully equipped gym and Spa.  Aft there is a large bar that leads out onto the aft deck where there is a formal al fresco dining area, which can seat up to 20.

Moving downwards once more is the main deck that has plenty of communal areas and a couple of areas for inside dining.  There are a further 11 double cabins forward – so that’s a total of 18 cabins so far.  The aft deck hosts the main swimming pool and sun lounging area that converts into a helipad when needed.

The lower deck houses the crew with a whopping 19 cabins (accommodating 40 crew and staff), the galley, pantry, crew mess, officers’ mess and security office.  The engine room and tender storage are down here as well.  For guests there is a beach club aft and, but if you can’t be bothered to get the lift upstairs, yet another cinema.  Something tells us Andy Waugh is into his films.
